So recently My husband and I decided to tackle a LONG AWAITED PROJECT!
I can’t even begin to tell you how fun this project was!!
We literally transformed a 28 ft, old school, toy-hauler into a modern little tiny home!
I have to admit Pinterest was slightly at fault for this project!
I came across a refinished travel trailer and that WAS IT! I was dead set on refinishing ours!
We had to dedicate 2 weeks of our lives to get ‘er done . . . but it was well worth it!!
OK! LET GET STARTED! Lets show the “Before & Afters” of this transformation!
I’m going to start by showing you some basic before pics of the trailer…
DON’T WORRY! You’ll get to see every dirty detail along the way!
So from the outside it doesn’t look so bad right??
This is the view of the trailer when you first step in . . . eh . . . not so pretty
I do like that the appliances are black, but I HATED the dated cabinets!
As you turn to the right you can see the Fridge (ugly cabinet panel color inside)
And next to that is the bathroom sink and a bathroom across from it.
Next to that is a little clothes closet, and do you see that little opening back there?
Master Suite eh-em . . . I mean my tiny bedroom
I ESPECIALLY HATED this HIDEOUS fabric! Yuck!
Can you believe this is a 2006 model??? Looks like it just stepped out of the 70’s.
And look at the window treatments!?! Shudder . . .
Here’s the back cargo area which holds 2 queen beds for the kiddos.
Seriously, carpet? WHY? Who designs these things??
OK! Are you ready for some action photos?? Time to clear this space out!
Need to get the couches and beds out and start taping this whole place off!
My son had the tedious task of taping . . .
My hubs was HAPPY to yank out the carpet and pull up the UGLY linoleum!
On a side note. . . my hubs is the most AMAZING person in the World!
He is the HARDEST working person I’ve ever met in my life!
Not only does he work outside ALL DAY in this AZ Inferno Heat,
he will come home and start working on projects with as much enthusiasm as I do!
Here Hubby ripped out the old TV cabinet which housed an old school console TV/DVD.
This GIANT obstruction came out at an angle,
and hitting our heads on it was an absolute certainty EVERY SINGLE camping trip! 🙁
So hubs got creative and cut some wood to match the other side of cabinet
and then added some reinforcement to the wall for our new flat screen TV (free on Craigslist 😉 )
Time to get this place Primed and Painted!
My FAVORITE part!! Can’t you see it in my GIANT grin???
DONE! Walls and Cabinets all Primed!!!
Here we setup a paint booth on the side of our house and got all the doors primed as well!
While there was still daylight, we cleaned out the Spray Gun and got out some
Grey Oops paint we had on hand. I believe I had paid $5 for the gallon.
We painted all the cabinets, the bathroom & hallway areas with this color.
All the plastic is down, now time to roll the paint on the walls!
I believe the color was Silver Tradition?
. . . and get the flooring in!
We opted for a Vinyl Wood Plank Floor. Quick & Easy, Lightweight & DURABLE!
Here my lil babe is helping out . . .
In the meantime,
I had to get new fabric for the couches and window treatments!
Even though my husband is AMAZING . . .
I will never take him into Joanne’s Fabric store with me again.
Definitely not a place for a MAN.
Sheer irritation written ALL OVER his face as he waited patiently in line
so I could browse for the coordinating fabrics . . . Awww such a good guy.
SO ARE YOU READY TO SEE IT ALL DONE??
OK LET’S DO THIS!
BEFORE & AFTER:
up close shot of the old formica countertop
What do you think of the new countertop???
Well technically it’s not new . . . instead we decided to paint the countertop with
Rustoleum Countertop Paint! While the final coat was drying,
I added crushed Epoxy Flakes (for garage floors).
Appropriate for the diamond plate backsplash, right??
Looks NEW doesn’t it?? 😀
Brand new, modern, “masculine” Fabric! for the cushions.
We opted for NO fabric skirting along the bottom of the couches.
Looks modern, cleaner and what do you know?
We discovered more storage space down there for stuff!
. . . and what do you think of these new window treatments!?
I’m having a proud moment right now 😉
This project alone took an entire DAY to do all 3 layers and I had a total of 5 window valances to complete!
Ok, so I had to add a little “femininity” to the space!
Hubs wasn’t too thrilled about the magenta color curtains
But once he saw how nicely they blacked out the kids beds.. he was fine with it. 🙂
The drapes we got from IKEA because of the wider length, they are awesome! Just need a quick hem at bottom.
We also installed a standard 8′ metal closet rod from Home Depot and it fit perfectly!
New bedding for the 2 queen beds in the back. Thank you IKEA and Target!
I was able to save a some $ and bought Twin Size comforters!
Even though these are queen beds, the twin size comforter drapes over
the exact measurement of the side of the bed.
No need to have bulky comforter bunching up and trying to tuck under the bed!
Anyone who’s made a bunkbed understands this dilemma!
Old, bulky TV cabinet out . . . (sorry NO before pic with TV)
. . . New Flat Screen TV in!
My hubs did an awesome job with the cabinet repair!
You can’t even tell there was a cabinet once there!!!
Don’t you just love the colors of this space??
We painted the ugly wood panels of the fridge black! Doesn’t it look so much better?
I really wanted to use chalkboard paint there but hubs IXNAYED that idea 🙁
We also installed a blackout curtain for our bedroom . . .
the regular 84″ panel fit perfectly from ceiling to floor~
See how ridiculously tiny this sink was?? Not to mention it was plastic and dingy looking!
Ahh. . .Found this white sink for $18 at a liquidators store! And the faucet was on sale at Home Depot for $27
Painted the countertop here too . . . So much better right???
Yes believe it or not this is a bathroom space…
It may be small, but trust me you appreciate it when your camping!
Better than going out in the woods in the middle of the night!
Now look how pretty! I kept the plastic shower liner inside the tub,
but added an 84″ single curtain panel for the shower curtain!
Hubs installed a new towel rack (which we never had before)!
Now for the master suite . . .
Oh yes . . . I went there. Yep thats pink and butterflies you see.
Got this cute “girly” fitted comforter made for my bed.
C’mon ladies… you know you love this!
Currently working on the wall decor in there 😉
hubs not so thrilled haha
Old linoleum flooring . . .
. . . beautiful new “wood plank” style vinyl flooring!!
and we added a small little area rug to help with dirt traffic . . .
All closed up and ready to tow some toys!
LET’S GO CAMPING!!
So what do you think of our new Tiny Home? We LOVE IT!
Already took her camping and WOW~ We should’ve done this a LONG time ago!
