Well . . . Here’s my latest project that I’m so happy to share with you!
*ENGINEERED HARDWOOD FLOATING FLOOR*
Once again I decided to tackle YET another home improvement project!!
This was the longest, toughest project I’ve EVER DONE.
It’s not because the project required a lot of skill,
but mainly because of the tremendous amount of laborious effort it took to complete the project.
Our lives were NON-STOP for 3 straight weeks
and we had to live with layers and layers of DUST everywhere in my house.
Even though we completed the actual project in 14 days
(not bad for
amateurs non-pro’s) it was still ALOT of work!
To start . . . we had to
move out squeeze all of our “main area” furniture
into every bedroom of the house!
Pieces of the dining & living room in my bedroom. . .
. . . family room and miscellaneous items moved into the Theatre Room
Boy was that a joke! Still had to clean ALL of this stuff anyway!
Now that everything was moved out and walls were prepped, it was time for the WORK to begin!
First we had to demo approximately 2000 sq ft of tile.. and YES we did it all ourselves!
We started bright and early on a Friday morning & lets just say that was a
LONG and EXHAUSTING weekend!
3 straight days of laborious work! Look and see what we had to do —>
This is the initial tool we started with. . . all I can say is womp womp wompppp..
So after an hour of hubs demo-ing the tile . . .
lets just say I had to run to Home Depot and rent another demo hammer!
Hubby called it “THE JUDGE”
(if you ever saw the movie Armageddon- you would get this . . . hahaha 🙂 )
Soooo here we go . . .
NOW hubs and son are killing it!!!
Here my sons best friend is taking initiative to start busting out some tile with a chisel and hammer!
My son and I took turns with the smaller demo hammer…
After about 5 minutes. . . your back really starts to ACHE!
My hubs is such a TROOPER! He never quit!
(although he did have the better hammer 😉 )
After day 1, we realized we weren’t going to be done by Sunday
and we would need one more demo hammer.. . .ughhh.
Another trip to Home Depot.
All 3 of us now on Demo hammers. EXHAUSTING…
If you ever need to demo tile.. PAY TO HAVE IT DONE.
The cost is well worth the agony of this laborous job!
ALL the TILE is up, but now we have to go back through the ENTIRE house
and NOW take up ALL the thinset!
Which was securely attached to the concrete! GRRRRR….
In the meantime, Son and I taking a quick break and having a
DEEP, serious conversation . . . about Star Wars 🙂
Renting a dumpster and having it placed on our driveway was a SMART CHOICE!
Well worth the cost!
This dumpster was full to the TOP by the time we were done with ALL the tile!
Thank goodness all we had to do was close the door and it got hauled off!
Finally SUNDAY night.. we are done!
And YES . . . these are the LAYERS and LAYERS of dust we were left with. . . . YUCK
But I didn’t care!!
We finished just in time on Sunday for me to run to Floor & Decor and pick up my Wood Floors!
I had to get the wood floors to the house in order to give them
enough time to “acclimate” to the temperature in my house!
. . . and be ready for install in 5 days!
Picking out the color was a bit challenging. . . so if I can give one word of advice . . .
BRING SAMPLES HOME!!! Put them in every room of your house!
The lighting in the store is WAY different than the lighting in your home!
Look at this for example . . .
The one on the LEFT is the one my eye was drawn to at the store.
But the one on the RIGHT is the one that looked great in all the rooms of my house!?!
WHAT TO DO?!?
Even though the samples on the RIGHT look very light… ITS NOT!
Wait until you see it in my house!
Once the floor was laid, it looks exactly like the one on the LEFT!
I am so happy I brought samples home and made a decision!
Otherwise I would have been stuck with WAY TOO dark floors!
DAY ONE . . .(2nd weekend)
NOW FOR THE FUN PART! Here we go!!!!
Here we are bright and early the next Friday morning as we start laying out the floors!
But we managed to get around it (3 hours later) . . . and now we are FINALLY in motion!!
While one person was ahead laying the underlayment, another grabbed wood planks
and then another would pop the planks into place!!
THANKS GUYS!! WE ALL MADE A GREAT TEAM!!
Once we got around the kitchen island it was smooth sailing!
Some would use the shop vac to get any debris out of the way . . .
While someone else would make themselves available
to cut the wood planks with all the saw’s we had on hand!
SO ARE YOU READY TO SEE THE FINISHED FLOORS???
I have a full photo shot of the kitchen to show you..
But not until tomorrow when you see what I did to this space above the wine fridge!
